What makes a being a monster? According to the dictionary; this word denotes "one who deviates from normal or acceptable behavior or character" both negatively and positively. Originated by the Latin word monstrum who means something which threatens the natural order of things; we can find it in Latin literature. For example, the poet Horace described Cleopatra as a "fatale monstrum" (someone beyond humanity); while for Seneca this term means “a visual and horrific revelation of the truth”.
Whatever its origin is; through the millennia humankind met a very large number of monsters. Starting from ancient cyclops, gorgons, and hydra to contemporary Pokémon, they are a part of our everyday life. Vampires, zombies, boogeymen, and many other creatures are truly pop-icons and we can see them in thousands of books, comics, movies, tv-series & video games.

What is a monster?

But that's not all, because a lot of people has been fascinated by the bizarre since the dawn of times, the richest personalities of middle-ages created for their pleasure the Wunderkammer (or Cabinets of Curiosities); in there a lot of rare – sometimes fake – objects and creatures were collected to bring even more prestige to its owner, this was one of the best ways to improve the status of a family. For example, mythical creatures were commissioned to skilled craftsmen to show the rarest relics in the world; between them, it's compulsory to mention mermaids, unicorn horns, feathers of a phoenix’s tails, and other wonders who were presented to foreign diplomats or noblemen to demonstrate the magnificence and power of a certain dynasty…in a few words, it was pure and simple means of propaganda.

Playing with games, you've surely met hundreds of thousands of monsters; some of them tried to stop while some others gave you a big help in your quest, but in any of these titles the original monstrum beings were present. Luckily Nihon Falcom filled this void with the new chapter of the Ys series…the much-awaited Ys IX: Monstrum Nox for PlayStation 4!

In the small island of Esteria, there's a city called Balduq; known also as the Prison City due to its peculiar architecture which is more similar to a fortress than a normal city; its thick walls protect the entire community, and not just the castle dwellers, making it one of the safest places in all Gllia Region. Unfortunately, recently fearful rumors have started to circulate among the inhabitants; they talk about Monstrums. Beings with supernatural powers who move freely around the city. Some of them help the people while others only aim to harm them, and this creates confusion between the citizens.

In Ys IX: Monstrum Nox for PS4, you're Adol Christin; an adventurer who has been wrongly accused of the disappearance of a Romun military fleet. Helped by a mysterious cloaked girl he eventually escaped from the jail, to start a brand new quest to prove his innocence and unveil the most hidden secrets about the Monstrum's presence. Get ready for the folks who are still playing God of War. Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio will bring a PS5 enhanced performance patch for God of War. So, be prepared because it’s coming on February 02.

With this update, it features

Syncs to 60 frames per second
4K checkerboard resolution

If you want to play with the original PlayStation 4 graphics, you can turn it back anytime in the Original Performance Experience selection where you play it at 4K checkerboard resolution in 30 frames per second. For more info about this, check out the official announcement here.

Game Overview

Santa Monica Studio's pride has been on top because God of War has won several awards. It was released on April 20, 2018, for PlayStation 4 and it's the eighth installment in the God of War series. God of War is loosely based on Norse mythology rather than the previous games based on Greek mythology.

The main protagonist Kratos, and his son Atreus, journeys to fulfill the promise of his dead second wife and Atreus' mother. Her promise is to spread her ashes at the highest peak of the nine realms. However, Kratos is cautious about what's his true nature especially his divine nature to his son. How would things turn when Atreus learns that he's a God?
