In case you missed it… Publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward are proud to announce that the latest entry in the modern military shooting franchise, Call of Duty, is coming on October 25 under the title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It will launch worldwide for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that will be available exclusively on Blizzard Battle.net, Blizzard Entertainment's online gaming platform. Furthermore, Activision and Infinity Ward surprised everyone when they announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will feature cross-play support for multiplayer on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. According to the dictionary, this word denotes "one who deviates from normal or acceptable behavior or character" both negatively and positively. Originated by Latin word monstrum who means something which threatens the natural order of things; we can find it in Latin literature. For example, the poet Horace described Cleopatra as a "fatale monstrum" (someone beyond humanity) while for Seneca this term means “a visual and horrific revelation of the truth".
Whatever its origin is; through the millennia humankind met a very large number of monsters. Starting from ancient cyclops, gorgons, and hydra to contemporary Pokémon, they are a part of our everyday's life. Vampires, zombies, boogeymen, and many other creatures are truly pop-icons and we can see them in thousands of books, comics, movies, tv-series & video games.
But that's not all, because a lot of people has been fascinated by the bizarre since the dawn of times, the richest personalities of middle-ages created for their own pleasure the Wunderkammer (or Cabinets of Curiosities); in there a lot of rare – sometimes fake – objects and creatures were collected to bring even more prestige to its owner, this was one of the best ways to improve the status of a family. For example mythical creatures were commissioned to skilled craftsmen in order to show the rarest relics in the world; between them it's compulsory to mention mermaids, unicorn horns, feathers of a phoenix’s tails, and other wonders who were presented to foreigner diplomats or noblemen to demonstrate the magnificence and power of a certain dynasty…in a few words, it was pure and simple means of propaganda.
