You know, about 13,7 billion years ago the Big Bang has created the universe as we know it. Filled with celestial bodies and extreme source of energies; this always expanding environment captured the minds of millions of people through the ages. Some people tried to discover more information about it from a scientific point of view, while some others give it a more religious or philosophical explanation; in any case, the majority of them believe that there’s only one universe…our universe! Anyway, in the last years, the theory of the multiverse has started to become very popular not only among scientists and philosophers but also among common people. Thanks to pop-culture icons such as Star Trek, Doctor Who, and above all the Marvel Cinematic Universe; the theory od parallel universes grows a lot in popularity. The main question is…is this only mere speculation? Accordingly some very important scholars like Stephen Hawking or Alexander Vilenkin; five theories could prove the existence of multiple universes: - Bubble Universes: among time and space there is an infinite number of “bubbles”, and each one, which is not linked with the others, has its own laws of physics.
- Mathematical Universes: according to this theory, math is not just a tool to describe everything around us, but it is the reality itself, and we can only observe an imperfect perception of the universe. This means that more or less complex mathematical structures can create different types of universes independently.
- Infinite Universes: for this theory, the universe is like a flat carpet in continuous expansion. This means that at a certain point of it, a new big bang occurs to create new particles that could create a new universe. In there we could find other versions of us.
- Daughter Universes: exploiting the quantum mechanics, every choice we make give birth to separate universes in which we take a different decision. For example, if we are at the crossroad, and we turn right; a couple of daughter universes will be created, in one we’ll go right and in the other, we’ll go left.
- Parallel Universes: as declared by Paul Steinhardt and Neil Turok; there are many more dimensions compared to the ones we know. This theorizes that there are a lot of parallel universes that in some cases can be reached.
