Shin Sakura Taisen for PS4 – Modernity rules over the world!
Posted: 10 Dec 2019 09:40 PM PST

Shin Sakura Taisen
PlayStation®4 Ι Genre: Taishō Chic Adventure
Art Deco with a new idea of modernism; these couple of concepts summarize perfectly the aesthetic of the Taishō era. Began in 1912, this period lasted only 14 years, consolidated the international image of Japan as a modern country able to relate with the most powerful countries of the world.
Deeply fascinated by western cultures and habits; in the Taishō era, Japan witnessed a never-seen-before East-West hybridization that brought a tremendous effect on the everyday life of many people. For example; western artistic movements like art nouveau, art deco, expressionism, abstraction, and impressionism have been fused with typical Japanese works of art to release something very new like Shin Hanga (new prints) or Sosaku Hanga (creative prints). In addition, from a social perspective, the biggest revolution has been pursued by a new, rising class: moga and mobo; a.k.a. modern girls and modern boys.
Criticized by older generations, and by some conservative press as frivolous, and self-centered; its due to this cultural movement that phenomenon like Takarazuka theater was born (and resist still today). Speaking about moga in particular; their manifesto is without any doubt the novel Naomi, wrote in 1924 by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, and originally serialized on the Osaka’s Morning News before, and on the women's magazine Josei after.
It's useless to mention, that the fascination for this era continues still nowadays; in fact, video games like Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha or Sakura Taisen series approached it in a very interesting way creating an alternative version of these 14 years.
The Sakura Wars series, in particular; shows how a modern girl can do anything challenging hordes of black magicians who aim to dethrone the Emperor and eradicate any western influence from Japan.
Built by five episodes; the first adventure appeared in 1996 for Sega Saturn only in Japan, but despite the language barrier, it has conquered the hearts of a lot of gamers worldwide. Praised for its character design, compelling story, and high replay value; Famitsu wrote that this game was "wholeheartedly recommended", and during its release date it was sold out in many stores across the country.
Getting a so unexpected success the developers started to plan the next adventures of Sakura Shinguji, which has appeared on Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and Wii…but today that beautiful girl who wears the pink kimono will return on PlayStation 4 with the much-awaited Shin Sakura Taisen!
Set in the fictional 29th year of Taishō Era (1940); the sixth installment for PS4 takes place twelve years before the events occurred in Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love. A global-scale war has destroyed Tokyo, Paris, and New York; this means that almost all the members of the Combat Revues of those cities tragically disappeared. So, the few survivors join their forces to create a brand new Imperial Combat Revue’s Flower Division which is based in Tokyo. Lead by Seijuro Kamiyama, an Imperial Japanese Navy captain; this team is formed by Sakura Amamiya, a 17 years-old girl which is considered the heir of Sakura Shinguji; Hatsuho Shinonome, a shrine maiden of the Shinonome Shrine in Shitamachi; Anastasia Palma, a Greek actress which is now a precious member of the Imperial Combat Revue; Azami Mochizuki, a highly-skilled 13 years old kunoichi of the Mochizuki clan; and last but not least Clarissa “Claris” Snowflake, a Luxembourger noblewoman who loves reading. Together, this band of heroes will fight against a new demonic invasion; while they will try to win the prestigious The Great Combat Revue World War competition.
Part Action-RPG, part visual novel, and part dating simulation; Shin Sakura Taisen for PS4 is a true blossoming of a wide variety of genres that will let you live an exciting story where the broader outlook and the open-minded perspective of moga and mobo can save the world from the darkness.
Proudly enriched by steampunk elements, mechs, and a multi-branched story full with twists and turns; Shin Sakura Taisen for PS4 is a charming and highly refined adventure that will let unleash your heroic spirit.
Get ready to fight a new war digitally or physically, and don't forget that even in these turbulent times, you can find beauty around you!
